What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, the organization’s membership exceeds 358,000 in more than 16,800 clubs in 143 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
District 31
District 31 was the first Toastmasters International District organized in New England and is home to 200+ clubs in the Toastmasters family. Our district includes clubs in Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. Most notably our district has produced two World Champions of Public speaking in the new millennium, Darren La Croix in 2001, and Vikas Jhingran in 2007, and has sent numerous contestants to the Championship finals. Also, of note, District 31 is home to the youngest District Governor, Ben Lappen, DTM (24) along with the oldest District Governor, Charles V. Keane, DTM (97), a member from 1953 to 2008.
