District 31 Toastmasters Speech Evaluation Contest

The most insightful evaluators in District 31 provide feedback on a single test speaker and vie for the title of Best Evaluator in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.


District 31 Toastmasters Table Topics® Contest

Speakers give impromptu speeches based on an unknown prompt to determine the District 31 Table Topics® Champion.

Day 2: Saturday, May 18

7:00am District Council Registration & Credentials Early registration for members of the District Council for District 31 Toastmasters (District Officers, Club Presidents, Vice Presidents of Education, and their proxies). Verification of credentials to vote in the Business Meeting.
7:30am District 31 Toastmasters Business Meeting The District Council conducts business for District 31, including elections for District officers and District alignment for the 2019-2020 Toastmasters year.
8:00am General Registration Continued registration for attendees not involved in the District Business Meeting
8:30am Conference Orientation: Making Connections Icebreaker – Nicole Johnson A special orientation for all attendees who are not members of the District Council!  In this interactive session you will network, have fun, and learn how to make your story more memorable and interesting.
9:30am Day 2 Welcome District Director Gina Salcedo kicks off Day 2 at CLCON 2019
9:45am Keynote: Developing Your Signature – Joe Grondin Keynote Speaker Joe Grondin shares how to develop our unique voices to connect with listeners. Many times we fall into the trap of wanting to speak like someone else when our unique signature voice has the potential to WOW any audience. This keynote helps us to unlock that potential.
11:00am Workshop: Put Your Audience in the Driver’s Seat: How to Design and Deliver Audience-Driven Presentations  – Peter Bossio Learn how to bring your speeches to the next level using “audience-driven presentation.” Peter will demonstrate the technique by using your feedback as the presentation unfolds live during the workshop.
  Workshop: Humor in Public Speaking Get Laughs, Every Time  – Mary Cheyne Many people mistakenly believe you have to be born funny to be funny. In this workshop, learn why that’s not true, and how anyone can use humor to become a better speaker.
12:00pm Lunch Let’s eat and talk!
12:45pm Workshop: Tipping the Scale of Work-Life Balance in Your Favor – Stefano McGhee Explore how to define and develop work-life balance. Identify what’s important to you, how those things might be prioritized, how to balance those priorities, and how to remove things from your list when your schedule becomes unmanageable.

Empowering Your Posture – Michele Biscoe


Enhancing Your Vocal Variety – Joe Campo

This two-part workshop focuses on one of the most powerful tools you have as a speaker: your voice. Michele will demonstrate five-point centering, based on the Alexander Technique, to improve vocal projection and performance. Joe will take you through voice exercises and give you tips on improving your vocal variety.
1:45pm District 31 Toastmasters International Speech Contest Contestants compete to be named the best speaker in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The winner will earn the chance to advance to the World Championship of Public Speaking at the Toastmasters International Convention in August.
4:00pm Workshop: Harnessing Your Inner Creative Warrior for Public Speaking Success – Seth Greenwald Become a more playful speechwriter by following four simple rules of creativity. Let yourself feel like a kid again and harness the skills you need to become a better speech writer and public speaker.
  Workshop: The Audience Connector! – Betsy Trethewey Grab and hold your audience’s attention by adding a “touch of pizazz” to your speeches. Betsy will show you how to give your speeches personality. Find out how to connect with your audience and give them an awesome experience.
5:00pm Keynote Workshop: Signature Storytelling – Joe Grondin Joe Grondin returns to expand on his keynote speech and share techniques on how to connect with your audience and make the most of your signature story.
6:00pm Day 2 Adjourn We wrap up a busy Day 2 of CLCON 2019.
